Required Materials or Books: I will provide a notebook and the copies of all the short stories we will read and study.

Class Description:
This class will be an in-depth study of the short story and all the components that make up the short story. We will learn literary terminology such as theme, plot development, the 5 elements of plot, irony, character development, realistic fiction, etc.

We will read and study several short stories and learn how to write effectively about a short story. Lastly, we will put our knowledge to use as we write our own short stories.

About Lorna Hering

I am a 15 year Secondary English teacher with experience teaching grades 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. This will be my second year to teach at the BV Co-op. I love literature, learning, and kids. I have a passion for teaching English and helping kids to read, write, and think critically.
