In this class we will learn about some of our nations most important people, events and times using a variety of resources including books, pictures, short videos, maps and artwork. I will incorporate lap books, crafts, snacks, songs and games into our classes to help students stay engaged and interested in the subject.
We will cover Colonial America, Native Americans, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, the Old West, Amelia Earhart, “America’s pastime” baseball, American symbols and much more throughout our year. We’ll cover each topic for 1-3 weeks before moving on.For each unit we will have a variety of activities to keep kids interested and learning. For example, in our Colonial American unit, we will learn about the settlers daily lives, jobs, clothing, food, chores and more. We will make crafts, play games the colonial children would have played, make butter, try some early American dishes like “Johnny Cakes”, and read books. We will also learn about the settler’s interactions with the Native Americans.
