Class Description:
Writing can feel very personal, so hearing it critiqued by Mom or Dad can be especially painful. Does the entire prospect of guiding your 4th-6th grader through the writing process intimidate you? Are you stuck? Don’t know where to begin?

Look no further…All Things Fun & Fascinating is the perfect solution! Together, we make the perfect team to provide your child with all the tools he needs to become a creative, articulate, and clear writer.

*Giant stinky flowers.
*Soup made from a bird’s nest.
*Men who changed the world.

These are just a sampling of the “Fun and Fascinating” things your child will write about in the lessons of this wonderful curriculum. Humorous characters, tall tales, cunning creatures, and meritorious men of history will captivate 4th-6th graders as they learn to write with structure and style. Moving through Units 1–7, students will take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, put together a mini research report, and compose poems and creative essays. With games galore, vocabulary, and more, the optional activities will make writing both fun AND fascinating! You will be surprised at how much fun your child will have writing!

Designed to supplement and complement “Institute for Excellence in Writing’s” Structure and Style course, this workbook provides chapters that correspond with the units in the curriculum. Students will learn to write from outlines using Aesop’s Fables, write narrative stories based on the world’s folklore, summarize references about animals, write a research report on biographies of male inventors, and write creatively on other “Fun and Fascinating” things.

Your student will be writing with confidence weekly. There is room to write in the workbook for outlines, checklists, exercises, and brainstorming, though longer pieces should be written on a separate piece of paper. A “Style Help” appendix with banned words, common prepositions, great adjectives, verbs, and -ly words is included.

Taught once before in 2015-2016, this class follows the same writing method introduced in the Beautiful Feet Writing course from 2016-2017, and Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales from 2017-2018, Ancient History-Based Writing 2018-2019. While no previous experience is required, this course is a perfect follow up to reinforce and apply the concepts learned over the last four years in levels 4th-6th. Come take this writing adventure with us!
