Playing games offer opportunities for learning, teamwork, and fun. While playing games, students learn how to problem solve, use logic, form strategies, work as part of a team, lose or win graciously, and follow rules. Who knew that playing games could help us learn so much?!In this class, we will play card games, board games, and variety of other games including dominoes, dice, checkers, chess, trivia, and more. Games will be rotated so that students have the opportunity to play many types of games. Some weeks kids might play games with a small group or just a single partner. Other weeks we will play a game as a class like Bingo or Charades.
During the year, we will have tournaments in games like chess and checkers. When the weather is nice, we will spend time outside playing games like kick ball and perhaps even an old school game of kick-the-can. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own game. They will come up with the rules and construct the pieces and parts needed for their new game. The game could be in the style of a board, dice, card or even a physical sport. After completing, students will have a chance to play their game with their classmates.
