Class Description

In Elementary Economics, we’ll learn basic economic terms and principles through Children’s Literature. Using well-loved children’s books, we’ll study concepts relating to:Goods and Services – Consumers and Producers – Resources (productive, natural, human, and capital) – Entrepreneurs – Scarcity – Opportunity Cost – Exchange and Trade – Money and Profit, and more! We will read classic stories together, then analyze and discuss the economic principles found within. Students will interact with the stories and concepts through writing practice, brief presentations, and hands-on activities. We’ll also incorporate webisodes from Warren Buffett’s ‘Secret Millionaires Club for Kids’, which address topics such as marketing, advertising, planning, partnership, responsibility, and dependability. Lessons will be based on ‘Teaching Economics through Children’s Literature’ and Warren Buffett’s ‘Secret Millionaires Club for Kids.
