Class Description

Poetry and Painting is a beautiful way to tie together fine arts with language arts. Students will read, appreciate, and disect poems written by poets such as William Wordsworth, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Rudyard Kipling, Edna St. Vincent Millay, and more. Students will learn to distinguish different elements of poetry such as form, rhyme, and rhythm. They will also work to memorize excerpts from some of the poems to be treasured for years to come. On the fine arts side, I will walk the class through easy-to-follow watercolor tutorials, helping students craft a unique collection of paintings to visualize each poem and study poetry moods. We will experiment with creative painting techniques to illustrate parts of each poem.
