10th-12th: Eyewitness Accounts: 20th Century World History

We will study the world history in the 21st Century through reading exclusively eye witness accounts of the major events of the century. We will be reading the book The 20th Century: Eyewitness Accounts of the Moments that Shaped Our Century edited by Jon E. Lewis. I will assign a certain amount of passages each week. Then we will discuss the events, the perspective of the eye witnesses, the moral questions raised, and the significance of each. The students will choose one event/passage from each semester to further research. They will write an informative, or persuasive essay on their choice and turn it in by the end of the semester.
