This class will focus on learning introductory conversational and fun signs using American Sign Language. We will learn sign vocabulary, play games, and “chat” with each other. By the end of the year, the goal will be to have a high school credit in ASL 1 and be able to carry on basic signing conversations.
While there is no homework, I think you will find yourself wanting to use signs in all you do!
My interest in ASL began in elementary school, learning some basic signs. Although my interest continued, ASL was not offered as a high school course at the time. After college and grad school, as a young adult I took a continuing education class in conversational signing. My love for communicating using sign remained and, I have completed ASL 1 and ASL 2 with one of my children for their high school foreign language credit. We plan to continue to progress through ASL 3 and 4.
It has been so exciting to use ASL in a variety of settings, including at my church and at a couple of unique interactions with others signing. While I am still very much learning, and certainly not completely fluent, my love continues to develop, and I’d love to share it with others.
