Class Description:

Do you know what distinguishes fables from myths and fairy tales? What are the characteristics of each style of writing? Who are some of the authors of these tales? What can we learn from them, and how can we create our own gripping tales? Incorporating enticing stylistic techniques, exciting vocabulary, and intriguing dress-ups, we will learn all of this and more.

Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales: Writing Lessons in Structure and Style is a one-year enjoyable writing course that combines IEW’s Teaching Writing: Structure and Style method with classic children’s literature. Covering IEW TWSS Units 1-7, students learn how to take notes, summarize narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, and compose their own fables, myths, and fairy tales. They will even do library research to write a research report. Delight in classic children’s tales from Aesop to Anderson while learning to write with structure and style! Characters and adventures will capture students’ imaginations and provide rich writing content. (publisher description)

This class follows the same writing method introduced in All Things Fun and Fascinating during the 2015-2016 co-op year and the Beautiful Feet Writing course from 2016-2017. While no previous experience is required, this course is a perfect follow up to reinforce and apply the concepts learned over the last two years. Come write with us! This will be an adventure worth taking.
