Class Description: Digital SLR Photography
Photographs play an important role in our world today. We photograph to preserve memories, document events, and create art. Photography is a life skill that presents the opportunity to develop communication skills, art skills and technical skills all while having lots of fun!

This course introduces students to the basics and more of digital photography, via a DSLR camera. Students will learn what it takes to create good photographs and how to make them with their DSLR. Through a variety of assignments, students will engage their creativity by photographing a range of subjects and learning to see the world in new ways.

Students will learn, using a hands-on approach, how to take photos in manual modes as well as master semi-auto and full auto modes on their DSLR camera. Students will learn about their cameras and how to get the most out of them, the elements of light and exposure, histograms, HDR, f-stops, white balance, composition, the digital darkroom and image editing as well as the history of photography.

While great photos can be taken with all sorts of devices, this course focuses on DSLR photography and will not work with point and shoot, hybrid, smart phone and toy cameras. Moms and/or Dads interested in mastering their DLSR are also welcome to join us by registering as a student.

About Angie McCue

My name is Angie McCue. My husband, John and I have homeschooled our 4 children since our oldest began kindergarten (over 14 years). Our children have attended BVC for over 12 years.

My love and fascination with photography began at age 11 when I began learning from a professional photographer in my hometown. Photography has been a passion ever since. I have studied and practiced many different types of photography through the years including studying photography at Sam Houston State University. I am a part-time professional photographer today and love sharing photography with others. I believe very strongly that photography can be a very effective and rewarding tool which can be used to develop and nurture essential problem solving, communicative and creative skills needed in everyday life as well as in many different career fields. I've taught various photography courses at BVC since 2009.
