I will provide handouts along with an informational text packet that we will work through during the 28 week course.

Students will need a working email address and computer access.

Class Description:
This class will be an in-depth study of how to effectively decipher and compose well-written informational text. As students advance, the focus of writing begins to move away from fiction and more toward nonfiction that conveys information about the natural and social world around us. This 28 week class will explore six types of informational texts: persuasive, descriptive, compare and contrast writing, sequencing, cause and effect, and procedural writing.

We will read and study examples and use graphic organizers to help organize and create our own informational texts.

About Lorna Hering

I have been a public school teacher at McGregor ISD for 15 years. I have taught grades 8, 9, 11, and 12.

I graduated from The University of Houston and I am certified in English grades 6-12. I also have a Bachleors of Psychology degree. I enjoy helping students gain confidence in their reading and writing skills. Teaching is a passion of mine and I love kids! I feel like the Lord has given me a teaching gift, and I am always excited at the opportunity to use this gift. I have been married for 24 years to my high school sweetheart, and I was blessed with three amazing children of my own.

My goal is to make learning engaging, fun, and long term. I will treat your child with dignity and respect, and we will learn and grow together!
