Class Description:
Compassion In Action is a gentle introduction to some of the needs in our community and world in a way that encourages gratitude for what we have, empathy for those suffering, and equips students to reach out and make a difference in the lives of others. In this class we will learn about specific needs in our local community, some of the ways those needs are being met, how we can help, and then we will do some things to get involved! When possible we will connect with local resources like Fuzzy Friends Rescue, Care Net, Soldier’s Angels, Project Linus, the Ronald McDonald House in Temple, our local food Pantry, and nearby Assisted Living facility to meet the needs of our community. We will also include worldwide organizations such as Operation Christmas Child to expand our reach and awareness of needs across the globe. The goal for the class is to encourage compassion toward others, equip students with tangible ideas and information to make a lasting impact, and fill their hearts with the desire to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our world. The students will be involved in making many of the items to be donated: scarfs, blankets, onesies/baby items, cards, activity books, care packages, filling shoe boxes, and dog/cat toys, just to name a few!
