Class Description:  A traveler, an outlaw, a king, some knights,  the son of a nobleman, and a hobbit all are waiting to welcome you to the thrilling threshold of classical literature! In this class, students will be reading rich and fascinating books about people and events in the Middle Ages and also set in a time "Between the Dawn of Færie and the Dominion of Men". In these tales of law, chivalry, honor, and even corruption, you will be challenged to compare and contrast perceived virtue with true Biblical virtue.  These fabulous literature selections come from the 2nd cycle of history within the classical model. You will be pleased to recognize many of your old favorites even while discovering some great works you may not already know. Sign up and start your journey with us!

Reading stories such as these allows a student to see truths about himself and the world around him in the third person. This allows him to form conclusions and develop principles objectively.  Jesus used this method to teach truth throughout His ministry as He told countless parables to His followers and even at times to His accusers.  As a student thinks through what he is reading, he can ttruly start to see himself in his own life's story.  During the year, students will learn new vocabulary,  do fun activities related to the books, and study various literary elements.

Additional Comments: Students will be expected to read assigned chapters (approximately 55 pages per week) and complete vocabulary and comprehension exercises at home.  This will probably take approximately 2 hours per week, but will vary by child.
