Estimated homework: Students will be expected to read assigned chapters (approximately 30-35 pages per week) and complete vocabulary and comprehension exercises at home.  This will probably take approximately 2 hours per week, but will vary by child.

Class Time: 3rd hour (10:40-11:35)

(We highly recommend purchasing these books (new or used) during the summer so they are available as scheduled.  If necessary, you may borrow them from a family not taking the class, or from the library if they have multiple copies; however, it is the student’s responsibility to bring the assigned book to class with him/her each week.)

Welcome to the wonderful world of literature!  In this class students will be reading award winning books and other engaging literature to learn about various literary elements. 

Class time will focus on instruction of literary terms, comprehension quizzes, hands-on activities, and lively discussion to make the books a rich and meaningful learning experience.

In addition, each semester students will read one additional book and prepare a creative book report presentation to share with the class.  Fall semester selection will be any book of their choice; spring semester will be on a biography or autobiography.


Teacher Information:

Corina Kaul is the mother of four children and has been home schooling for 9 years.  She loves learning and has a 5 year history of teaching various co-op classes.  She is passionate about teaching children and developing their heart for God and the world which He has made.  One of her beloved hobbies is reading great children’s literature to herself and also to her family.  Corina has enjoyed being a pastor's wife for the past 14 years.

Susan Price graduated from Baylor University in 1992 with a BBA in Marketing and Quantitative Business Analysis.  She is the homeschooling mother of three and has also taught in public schools for 2 years.  This is her third year at the Brazos Valley Co-op.  Susan is active in the various children's ministries at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church .  With a commitment to providing children with a classical Christian education, Susan wants to prepare them to live out God's plans for their lives in the time and place He has put them. While enjoying teaching piano for 17 years, Susan’s other favorite hobbies include singing, playing and listening to music, camping, hiking, and studying classical literature.
