A Child’s Geography – Explore His Earth

Grade 2-3

We are taking adventures around the world so the children will role-play and make phone calls home to remember what they learn.  Journaling a Postcard Home will log our journeys so the details of our trip will not slip away.  After each unit we will include a "Reaching Out" segment that takes the information of the unit and places it into a practical context, encouraging geographers to do something to show His love to His world.  We will take “Too Fun to Resist Excursions” to extend the learning of each unit’s adventure.  Our travels will include the atmosphere, continents, seasons, climate, weather, structure of the earth, plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, latitude, and longitude.

When we travel to the uttermost parts of the world, we will accomplish this three ways:  globe travel, knee travel, and quiz travel.  We will pull out the globe, books, magazines to see people in their cultures, pray for their needs, and map drill by working our way from a labeled map to a blank map.

Your children will gain knowledge of geographical terms and topography of the planet.  Then they will be given a glimpse of the people groups that make up the earth and help them to understand how the geography of the planet affects the way people live and celebrate our creative, Creator God who fashioned a diverse world of people – all in His own image.
