Teachers: Cecile Crumpler and
Cindi Daniels Class Time: 6th hour (2:20 - 3:25)
Each month during the co-op year we will be focusing on an
individual or a group who helped to shape our country. For the
month of September we will look at early explorers and focus on
Christopher Columbus. We will learn about his voyage to America
and how he used maps, a compass and a telescope. We will learn
how to read maps and make one of our own. In order to sail in
the right direction Columbus needed a compass, so we will
demonstrate how a compass works. We will also do a project of
the ship he sailed. Other activities will include singing songs,
making a telescope to look for land, and making a hat. Facts
about Columbus will be written in a "peek over" book. Other
months will follow a similar format and will include: Indians,
Pilgrims, Washington, Lincoln, pioneers, and cowboys. Cecile Crumpler is the mother of 3 children and grandmother of 12. She relocated to Waco to be closer to her children after retiring from teaching elementary school for 30 years. She has a Bachelor's and a Master's in Elementary Education. Her main focus in teaching has always been history and literature using a lot of hands-on activities. She has traveled extensively in the U.S. and has developed a strong love of country which she wants to share with her students. She will be co-teaching this class with her daughter, Cindi Daniels. Cindi is the mother of 8 and has been homeschooling for 7 years. She has a Bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. Over the years, she has taught different ages at swimming lessons, mother's day out programs and Sunday School. She really enjoys using the unit study approach in teaching her own children. |
