better, more effective readers. Class time is spent in lecture and
group activities, for the most part analyzing literature pieces,
applying the basic literary elements to Biblically historical text
and contemporary texts. Students will be asked to do close-reading
exercises at home that will expand their knowledge of author intent,
literary content, purpose, and plot. Reading should be a joy, not a
chore, and students will be asked to keep a journal throughout the
course, charting their growth, both personally and academically, as
they read and learn from various pieces. In addition, tests and
quizzes will be administered periodically to check for understanding
and one major paper will be assigned near the conclusion during the
spring semester. Mrs. Selke has a bachelor of science in education from Baylor University, taught in public schools for six years, is a certified reading therapist, and has worked with Brazos Valley Co-op for two years. |
