Required Materials or Books:

We will be reading the following books: 

• Amos Fortune Free Man by Elizabeth Yates,
• Calico Captive by Elizabeth George Speare,
• The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare,
• Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell,
• Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor,
• Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and
• Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. 
• We will also be reading selected poems from Favorite Poems Old and New by Helen Ferris (parents do not need to purchase this book.)
• Students will also need a binder, pen or pencil and paper.

In this class students will be reading award winning books and learning about various literary elements as well as the historical time period of some of the books. Students will be expected to read the assigned chapters outside of class and complete questions. We will also be studying various forms of poetry throughout the year.
