Why study Latin? Latin is everywhere! About 70% of the English language comes from Latin. One Latin root may have 8 or more English derivatives. So if you know the Latin root word and its meaning, you can decipher the meaning of new English words. Latin grammar is also helpful in understanding English grammar. Studying the organized grammar of Latin helps students study English grammar in a more organized. disciplined way. Latin is the foundation of several other languages including Spanish and French, so if your child studies Latin, he has a tremendous
advantage in studying, not only English, but also other foreign languages. Finally, students who study Latin perform better on standardized tests such as the SAT.

Latina Christiana I is a beginner Latin course for the middle grades. It introduces Latin in an appealing way using simple translations, recitations and games. During the course of the year, students will learn 200 Latin vocabulary words, 25 Latin sayings, 3 declensions, 2 conjugations, and several songs and prayers.

There are 25 lessons in the student book. After each lesson, students will take a quiz to assess their level of mastery. After every five lessons, we will have a review lesson, play jeopardy, and take a test. Tests are not comprehensive. Quizzes and tests are taken at home to optimize class time.

Students must use the CD and flashcards to master the material. Homework will take 15 to 20 minutes a day, three days a week. Daily repetition is the key to mastery!

Latina Christiana is an enjoyable way to study Latin. I would love to have your student in my class next year!
