I am very excited to offer this class next year! Latin in the Christian Trivium (LitCT) is a an accredited four-year high school Latin curriculum with some unusual twists. It is a traditional Latin program using the ecclesiastical pronunciation (the same as Latina Christiana).  However, it uses the Bible and Christian stories and themes for exercises rather than ancient Roman mythology and war themes.

Volume I contains only 15 lessons. We might finish that before the end of the year. The scope and sequence suggests covering the first 5 lessons of Volume II during the latter part of the first year, then finishing Volume II the second year. Volume II has 18 lessons. We’ll see how far we get. We may breeze through Volume I or we may need to spend more time on it. If we do start Volume II next year, I would be happy to teach the second year, also.

The grammar content includes 3 declensions, all six tenses of 1st conjugation verbs, adjectives, adverbs, indicative and imperative moods of verbs, interrogative and relative pronouns and much more! A vocabulary of 334 words will be introduced, and students will have an opportunity to use their newfound vocabulary to do some creative writing, in Latin.

A brief history of Italy will presented along with the Roman calendar, the monarchy and republic of Rome, and everyday life in Rome.

Students will learn and translate Bible verses in Latin and follow the story of a Roman centurion throughout the course of all four volumes.
