This class will be based on the series of history books that begin with If you lived... Some of the books we will be using are If You Sailed on the Mayflower, If You Lived in Colonial Times, If You Lived at the Time of the American Revolution, If you Lived With the Cherokee, If you Traveled West in a Covered Wagon, and If you Lived at the Time of the Civil War. We feel that the best way to learn history is to allow the students to experience life as it was; therefore, we will provide projects and activities that model the lifestyles of the people we're studying. For example, when we study the colonial times, we will play some of the games they played, and make a colonial toy. We will look at the kind of houses they lived in and make an example of their paper windows. After learning about their schools, we will make a hornbook and practice quill writing. We will learn about the first postal service and town criers by having the students act it out. These are just a few of the fun activities the students will be experiencing when we study colonial times. The other books we study will follow the same type format. Hope you will join us on our trips back in time.
