Materials Fee (due at registration): $20.00 Deposit (due at registration): $30.00 Grades: K-1 Minimum Class Size: 8 students Maximum Class Size: 20 students Class Time: 2nd hour (9:35-10:30) Art I will introduce beginning students to understand and experiment with various sources of inspiration for creative work, such as nature, the imagination, the constructed environment, decoration and the work of famous artists. Emphasis will be placed on allowing the child to develop ideas for expression in visual form, creative problem-solving, and an understanding of basic art concepts and skills appropriate to their age. Students will gain experience with various art materials, tools and processes, such as drawing, painting, collage, clay, and other three-dimensional media. Emphasis will be placed on instilling a love of art and on the creative process. Teacher Information: Kate received a Bachelor's degree in Art History with a minor in Studio Art at Baylor University in 1994 and received a Master's degree in Arts Administration in Manhattan in 1999. She was privileged to study with one of the lead art educators in the nation through an internship at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has used the teaching methodology she learned to teach children from preschool through 8th grade from such diverse backgrounds as a housing project and a village in Haiti. After seven years of work at The Art Center of Waco as Director of Outreach Education, she began Art in the Park and contracts with various schools and organizations to teach art to children. |
