During the Fall semester, students will learn how to select a suitable topic and write a 6-12 page research paper using MLA format. There is AMPLE time to work through each step and submit one or more rough drafts so that their final product will be a satisfying effort.

During the Spring semester, we will explore other forms of writing with emphasis on various forms of essays. We practice simple techniques for writing efficiently which will be useful later on SATs, college and scholarship applications, and in everyday adult life.

Assignments are almost always drawn from the students' own interests and suggestions, so this class is usually a fun way to insure that your high schooler gets good writing practice!

Teacher Information:

I have enjoyed teaching this class for the last nine years. It is fun to watch students--even those with learning differences or who just generally dislike writing--discover ways to express themselves.
