  • 2nd Edition Exploring Creation with Physical Science by Dr. Jay Wile, published by Apologia Educational Ministries, Inc. -  2 volume set. The first book, hardbound, is the student text, which contains all student material, 'on your own' questions and solutions, laboratory exercises, and module study guides. Color photos and illustrations. The second book, softbound, is the solutions and tests manual, which contains answers to module study guides, tests, and test solutions. Cost $85 available at www.apologia.com or other online sources. Each student will need to obtain their own textbooks and be prepared to begin reading before the first class. Apologia makes an Audio version of the text and also a CD-ROM version available but these are not required.
  • 3 ring binder for study guide questions and lab reports, as well as occasional note-taking.

"This should be the last course a student takes before high school biology. Typically, we recommend that the student take this course during the same year that he or she is taking pre-algebra. Exploring Creation With Physical Science provides a detailed introduction to the physical environment and some of the basic laws that make it work. The fairly broad scope of the book provides the student with a good understanding of the earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. It also covers details on weather, motion, Newton's Laws, gravity, the solar system, atomic structure, radiation, nuclear reactions, stars, and galaxies."

Students will be given an assignment schedule to read through the text at home. Most experiments will be scheduled to be done during co-op class time. Students will be expected to write lab reports and maintain a lab notebook. Parents will grade all student work (tests, study guide questions, lab reports)

Class will be instructed by additional parent volunteers on occasion. Volunteers will receive tuition discount.

From Dr. Jay Wile: "General science is not a prerequisite for physical science. Thus, as long as
the student is comfortable with the math in the course (multiplying fractions so that like terms cancel, squaring numbers, determining the factors by which things change, and plugging numbers into equations), he or she should do fine in physical science, regardless of whether or not the student has taken general science."
