Students will study the five themes of geography covered in the Zeman text and become familiar with the names of each country and their capitals. We will also study basics of Old and New Testament geography. The study of world missions will be done through true-life stories of missionaries, past and present. Weekly homework assignments (a mini country profile worksheet) will allow students to focus on nations of interest. Weekly quizzes will reinforce geography vocabulary and map skills. Two written projects, a missionary biography and country research project, will encourage writing skills. The country research project is done throughout the year concurrent with geography concepts being learned. For example, when learning about climates, the student will write a portion about the climate in the country they are researching. Because of the writing element, fourth graders will find this course challenging, most fifth and sixth graders are comfortable with it. Students will be encouraged to participate in the annual geography bee held in February. Visits by missionaries on furlough will be scheduled.as available. Prayer for unreached people groups will be encouraged. A field trip to Wycliffe International Museum of Cultures and the International Linguistic Center (near Dallas) will be planned.
